Passages appreciated by the professionals : Tour de France, Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, La Marmotte... but it’s not necessary to be a professionnal to discover the roads and summits of Maurienne Valley, the land of the excellence for the bicycle kings. Remember « La Petite Reine” (the french nickname for the bicycle, of Course), that we could translate in english by “the little queen”.
Gentle or more challenging, the courses offer a variety which did not escape the Father of the TOUR DE FRANCE, Henri DESGRANGES.
From 1905, each year he sent La Grande Boucle to conquer the Maurienne passes, sometimes on roads not yet paved. Today the “buckles” are accessible to bike lovers. Asphalt under the tires for those who enjoy long distance, but also fat grass under the tires of the vététistes which can enjoy the drunkenness of the possible secure descents in resorts, since numerous accesses by chairlift.
To savour the routes of Maurienne, the Maurienne Tourist Bureau has created several brochures outlining the remarkable mountain passes.
